H. L. Hime was a photographer, surveyor, businessman, and financier. He is most noted as a pioneer photographer on the Canadian prairies, Hime was photographer and surveyor on the Canadian government’s 1858 Assiniboine and Saskatchewan exploring expedition led by Henry Youle Hind. Hime’s photographs include views and portraits taken along the route and in the Red River settlements, various Hudson’s Bay Company forts and native encampments. A portfolio of prints was published in 1860.
